The most commonly used projectors have been divided into three
classes. Stationary Projectors, one that will remain in one place,
has high image quality and brightness and can accommodate a large
audience, Conference Room Projectors, smaller, more portable projectors
ideal for medium sized training sessions and meeting presentations,
and Portable Projectors, lightweight, compact and high quality
for impressive presentations on the road.
Stationary
/ Mounted Projector
- Brightness:
Most stationary, or mounted projectors are used in auditoriums
or large classrooms. If your projector is to be in a
large
room, it is very important to have an adequate ANSI lumen
rating. 2500 ANSI lumens or better will suit your
presentation
to either a dim or a well-lit environment.
- Resolution:
A native (standard) XGA resolution, 1024 X 768, enables high
quality imaging good for both complex diagrams and simply
drawn training aides. Allows 60% greater content than SVGA
800 X 600.
- Input:
For important meetings and presentations, more than one input
is a big bonus. Prior to showtime, two presenters can set
up their PC or Laptop for ease of transition during the presentation.
- Sound:
A sound system may be required for your presentations. Many
Proxima projectors have a sound system built-in. For large
audience presentations you will require external sound equipment.
- Extras:
Consider ceiling mounting with a remote mouse and projector
control. Motorized zoom and focus are also a plus. Screen
selection and e-Control systems bring your environment into
a more dynamic environment were you are in full control.

Conference
Room / Desktop Projector
- Weight:
Chances are that a conference room projector will not do too
much traveling. In this regard, weight becomes somewhat less
important. It is wise to use a projector that weighs no more
than 8-15 pounds. A 8-15 pound projector is portable enough
to cart to and from classrooms or meeting rooms and even portable
enough to fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat
on an airplane.
- Brightness:
Most conference room projectors are used in medium to large
sized rooms. If your projector is to be in a large room, it
is very important to have an adequate ANSI lumen rating. 1600
ANSI lumens or better will suit your presentation to either
a dim or a well-lit environment.
- Resolution:
A native (standard) XGA resolution, 1024 X 768, enables high
quality imaging good for both complex diagrams and simply
drawn training aides. Allows 60% greater content than SVGA
800 X 600.
- Input:
For important meetings and presentations, more than one input
is a big bonus. Prior to showtime, two presenters can set
up their PC or Laptop for ease of transition during the presentation.
- Sound:
A sound system may or may not be necessary for your presentations.
Many Proxima projectors have a sound system built-in. This
sound system will need augmentation if you are looking for
a dynamic multimedia presentation.
- Extras:
To unchain yourself from your computer, consider purchasing
a RF remote mouse or wireless accessories. This will enable
you to walk about the room while the presentation goes on
with your finger on the button--anywhere in the room.
Quality screens are an inexpensive way to leverage
your projector investment.

UltraPortable,
Travel-Friendly Projectors
- Weight:
When packing for a trip have you ever heard, "travel
light," from a travel companion? Proxima's line of UltraLight
projectors enable you to do just that. Insist on a projector
that weighs less than 8 pounds.
- Brightness:
1300 lumens is an ideal brightness. A bright projector that
will project a clear image in a well-lit room is critical
to any quality presentation. A projector that does not require
dimmed lights is important, as dimmed lights encourage droopy
eyelids.
- Resolution:
A native (standard) SVGA resolution, 800 X 600 is adequate
for basic presentations, if working with highly
detailed imagery,
it is better to go with a higher native resolution like XGA
1024 x 768.
- Inputs:
In most cases where a portable projector is used, there is
only one presenter. Unless special circumstances apply, one
input should be sufficient.
- Sound:
When addressing small groups, sound is not a big issue, most
built in equipment should be adequate for any on-the-road
presentations.
- Extras:
Consider purchasing a remote RF mouse or wireless accessories.
This will enable you to walk about the room and still control
the presentation. A carrying case that can fit both a laptop
and a projector can come in handy.
Consider a quality
portable screen.
